Volunteer Opportunities
Our Savior Lutheran Church would not be able to do all the wonderful things we do for our members, our neighbors and our community if it weren't for the dedication of our volunteers. These people offer their time and talents to benefit the community and this congregation in His name.

Volunteer opportunities are available for special events, on a weekly basis or just whenever you think you have time to spare. Please call your lay minister or the church office if you are interested in volunteering. The phone numbers can be found inside the front cover of the weekly bulletins.

We Need You
Our Savior is a busy place! It provides us all an opportunity to benefit from a variety of programs and services including spiritual development, personal growth, and community involvement.

We need YOU to give us a helping hand to make this happen!

YOU can make a difference.

Thank you.

Mentors and Tutors Needed for 2014 Program

Dear ROCK Mentors,

ROCK Summer Learning is about to begin its 10th year at Our Savior Lutheran. Last year we served 40 children with the kindness and love of Jesus, our Savior. We thank God for you and for your help to “make a difference” in the lives of these children.

ROCK is an important part of our outreach ministry to neighborhood families. Success is evident in new relationships, growing trust, academic improvement, and return registrations.

The time schedule remains the same as last year: Tutors are needed 12:40 - 2:10 p.m. Those who are able are encouraged to remain with their students for Health Topic, Prayer & Praise, and Physical Activity until 3:00 p.m. Your help is appreciated for as many days and times as you are available: Monday through Thursday, July 14th - 31st.

New this year is a move toward individualized assessment and grouping by skill level, rather than by grade level. As in previous years, we will provide 3 weeks of review lessons that target student needs in a volunteer friendly format.

Tutor Orientation, including review of the curriculum, will be on Tuesday, June 24, 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Please plan to attend this important meeting. Call the church (789-1361) if you cannot be present or if you have any questions.

If you know of any additional volunteers, bring them with you; the more mentors we have, the more opportunities we will have to “make a difference” – academically, physically, socially, and spiritually – in the lives of at-risk children.

Whether you serve as a tutor or helper, you are God’s chosen ingredient for success. Thank you in advance for volunteering and sharing "the kindness and love of God our Savior" (Titus 3:4-5) with the children of our neighborhood.

On Christ, the solid Rock,

Pastor Randy Schultz

Please CLICK HERE to print and return the response form or call the church office at (810) 789-1361 by Monday, June 23rd.

On Sunday, you will see a "Help Needed / Ready to Help" sign up sheet on the OSL Youth Group section of the church bulletin board. The idea is to match people in the congregation that need something done with teens (and their families) that have the skills to do it.

For example, if a member needs their gutters cleaned out and weeds pulled around their home, a teen or group of teens (with a parent or guardian) that likes to work outdoors can sign up to take on those tasks.

The work will be done free-of-charge, however, as the Youth Group is preparing to attend the LCMS High School State Gathering this year, freewill offerings or tips will be accepted for any work being done. Thank you, as always, for your support of the young people in our congregation.

Property Beautification
We are looking for anyone who wants to show up to church a few minutes early each Sunday and pick up paper and other debris that has blown onto the Our Savior Lawn and into the parking lot. We also, need help on Thursday mornings, weeding the flower beds and doing other work around the church (inside and out). If this sounds like something you would enjoy doing, please contact the Board of Property.

Group and Board Volunteer Opportunities
Youth Group: We are looking for people to help with the Youth Group Meetings, Junior Youth Group Meetings, and Sunday School Kids extra events. If anyone is interested in helping in any of these areas, call Angel Roberts.

Property Board: We are looking for people to help around the church on Thursdays starting at 9:00 a.m. All-year-round, we need help with cleaning and light maintenance. If you want to help keep our church beautiful, come out any morning and we will put you to work.

The Alter Guild: We are looking for volunteers to learn what we do and help out. Anyone who is interested in learning how to become an Alter Guild please contact Bert Roof or call the church office.

The Hat Lady
The Hat Lady has been knitting since last winter... making stocking caps in all colors and sizes. The hats are just $5 each. The proceeds from these cute covers support the "Show Me The Way" (Blind Ministry). However, if you know someone in need and you don't have the means, we will gladly give you one for free. Thank you for your support.

Hurley Medical Center - Courtesy Coach
Hurley Medical Center is looking for qualified people who can make a difference in our Courtesy Coach, Surgical Lounge and Greeter Program.

As a volunteer you will provide valuable services for patients, visitors, and staff --services which might not otherwise be available (ie. greet and guide visitors, keep families informed, raise monies for hospital endeavors, listen and provide comfort, provide a warm hug...)

For more information on this opportunity, please call Hurley Medical Center, Lisa Hasselbach, Volunteer Director at (810) 257-9152 or via email at lhassell@hurleymc.com

Habitat for Humanity
Genesee County Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry, affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, but controlled locally. It is made up of people who volunteer their time and work to provide decent, affordable homes for persons who could not otherwise afford to buy a home. Habitat is financed through donations of money and materials. Houses are sold at no profit, and no interest, typically over a 20 year period.

Contact Wayne Bailey or the church office for more information on how members and friends or Our Savior Lutheran Church can help with a Habitat for Humanity project.

Perscripiton Help for the Uninsured
Local Grocery Store to Help Uninsured Cover the Cost of Prescriptions

Health Access is collecting receipts from VG's to help low-income, uninsured individuals access prescriptions. VG's will donate a percentage of the total of all receipts that we submit to Heath Access, and we will utilize it to help with the purchase of prescription medications for those who are unable to pay for the prescriptions.

If you shop at VG's, or you know someone who does, please save your receipts to help us to help the community.

The receipts may be mailed to:

RxHealth Access
1428 W Court St
Flint, MI 48503

This is an on-going project - there is no deadline to submit receipts. The more receipts collected, the more people who will be helped --no receipt is too small! If you have any questions, please feel free to call Marcy Buren, Director of Health Access, at 232-4200.
