What's Going On at OSL?

Check the back of the Sunday bulletin for the up-coming events.

Spring is on the Horizon and so are More Fun Events at OSL!

The first day of Spring in 2014 is on March 20th. It is one of the four temperate seasons; the transition period between winter and summer. "Springtime" is a season of warming temperatures that brings to mind ideas of rebirth, renewal and regrowth.

It may feel like we are still stuck in the dead of winter, but you don't have to be stuck indoors. As we enter this new (hopefully warmer) season, we want to remind you that when you get out and involved in church activities, you are not only opening yourself up to opportunities for personal rebirth, renewal and regrowth, but you are also creating lasting memories with family and friends, helping people in the surrounding neighborhood, and making a difference in the community.

We have lots of things going on this Spring that will be fun for you and for your family; and that will be helpful to others.

Our Pastor, Executive Director and Board Directors are happy to tell you all about our current, on-going activities, and up-coming events and projects, as well as our plans for future programs.

Come to Our Savior Lutheran where each person is
LOVED as a Precious Gift from God.

- - March Spotlight Events - -

Join us all through March (and into April) for the Christian season of Lent. It all starts on Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, with a light supper at 6:00 p.m. and a special, evening, Ash Wednesday worship service at 7:00 p.m.

The rebirth, renewal and regrowth schedules continues with the following special services:

  • March 9th - Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m.
  • March 12th - Lent Supper at 6:00 PM, Service at 7:00 PM

  • March 19th - Lent Supper at 6:00 PM, Service at 7:00 PM
  • March 23rd - Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m.
  • March 26th - Lent Supper at 6:00 PM, Service at 7:00 PM

  • April 18th - Good Friday Service at 7:00 p.m.
  • April 20th - Easter Services at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

  • During each of these services we will focus on Jesus Christ's journey --His suffering, His sacrifice, His life, His death, His burial and His resurrection.

If you haven't come to church in a while, please consider coming on this journey with us. Lent is a great time to get back in touch with your spiritual self and to set aside time for personal reflection, which is sure to lead you to personal growth.

On Sunday, you will see a "Help Needed / Ready to Help" sign up sheet on the OSL Youth Group section of the church bulletin board. The idea is to match people in the congregation that need something done with teens (and their families) that have the skills to do it.

For example, if a member needs their gutters cleaned out and weeds pulled around their home, a teen or group of teens (with a parent or guardian) that likes to work outdoors can sign up to take on those tasks.

The work will be done free-of-charge, however, as the Youth Group is preparing to attend the LCMS High School State Gathering this year, freewill offerings or tips will be accepted for any work being done. Thank you, as always, for your support of the young people in our congregation.

"If we all use the same Bible, why are there so many different denominations? What makes the Lutheran Church different than my other Church? What about evolution? Isn't it a proven scientific fact? What can we know about the end of time? What about life issues: Infant Baptism, Divorce, Homosexuality, Abortion? Does God still speak to us today? Is His Word reliable? Is it relevant for the 21st century?"

If these are questions that you have asked, then mark your calendar for our next Fit For Life in Christ session. Classes started January 5, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.

Fit For Life in Christ is a 10 to 12 week course that presents the Word of God in exciting and meaningful ways. It is a course for those who are interested in membership in our church, or for anyone who wants to know what it really means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

You owe it to yourself and your life with God to register and bring a friend to this enlightening, faith-building opportunity!

Call the church office to register or for more information.

LCMS MI District 2014 Senior High State Youth Gathering

The event will take place at the Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island and run from June 22 to 25, 2014. The theme is built around the Bible verse

Matthew 5:14, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."

Participants must be age 14 (or entering 9th grade in the fall of 2014) to age 20 (and must be affiliated with an LCMS congregation).

We have made our non-refundable group deposit.

The base cost of the gathering is $395 per person.

If you are interested in going as a participant or a volunteer, or would just like more information, please contact Youth Director Angel Roberts.

We will NOT be asking for sponsors this time around. If a teen wants to attend the gathering, they must earn their way there. If you want to support our youth, keep them in your prayers.
