Ministry at Our Savior

What is Ministry?

It can be a noun. It can be a verb. It can be easy to see. And for many, it can be easy to do. But what is "ministry" really? How do YOU (personally) define ministry?

The definitions on the world-wide-web are endless. So I find it funny how, as I was looking for a clever way to start off the Our Savior Ministry web page, without much effort at all, God pointed me toward a resource that made perfect sense... to me at least. And I believe the author's [a professor] definition will make perfect sense to you too.

“Ministry is meeting people where they are at and taking them to where God wants them to be.”

Check out the article: "How do you define ministry?"  Then give some thought to the following:   What can you do to minister to others? And then check out some of the things Our Savior does to minister to others (below). Think about how you can be part of these ministries.

Show Me The Way: Blind Ministry

Blind Ministry is an outreach to the blind and visually impaired. We feel this is a need because 95% of the blind are unchurched. We have a monthly meal, fellowship, devotion, bible study and singing. It has been a real blessing to see the people grow and establish relationships while learning about our Lord Jesus.

The next meeting will be held on October 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.

Please contact Tom or Jan Roberts or Helen Thorn for more information.

Our only fund-raiser is an annual "Dinner in the Dark" where we accept free-will donations. During this event, we do some "enlightening" activities for the sighted and the blind attendees. The date and details for this year's event will be posted soon.

Cup Ministry

Coffee cups with candy and information about Our Savior Lutheran Church are given to first time vistors to our church. Bring a friend, family member, neighbor, or anyone that you want to share the Word of God with. Not only will they be uplifted by an inspiring message, but they will also get a treat to take home with them.

Worship for Shut-ins

Worship for Shut-Ins is produced weekly by Lutheran Ministries Media. The program can be seen on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. on the following networks: TCT, WAQP-TV 49 (Saginaw); WTLJ-TV54 (Grand Rapids); and WDWO-TV18 (Detroit). Other cities in Michigan include Battle Creek, Frankenmuth, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Monroe, and Portage. Visit Worship For Shut-ins to view the program online or for broadcast information, or call (888) 286-8002.

Midweek Word & Prayer

Everyone is invited to met with us on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in the church basement. In this informal setting we study God’s Word, pray, sing, and snack. We are currently studying 1st Peter – 10 crucial insights for Christian Living in a Non-Christian Culture. We invite you to join us and bring friends or anyone you feel a calling to invite.

Teach the Children to Pray

Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Confession of Faith: APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. Form thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christina Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Common Doxology Prayer for Children children
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Common Table Prayer
Come Lord Jesus, be our guest
Let these gifts to us be blessed.
May there be a goodly share,
on every table, every where.
